Title: CALL TO ACTION: Submit Comments on the Proposed GIPSA Rule by FRIDAY

Late last fall, USDA acknowledged the agency would continue the rulemaking process on the 2010 Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Act (GIPSA) proposed rules. The proposed rulemaking was initially undertaken in 2010 and quickly defunded by Congress, which recognized them as a flawed concept that limits producers’ marketing options while adding layers of bureaucracy and opening the door to litigation. SDCA was stringently opposed to the rules in 2010 and we remain concerned about the impacts these rules may have, particularly in this time of challenging cattle markets.  Currently, the GIPSA rules include an interim final rule on competitive injury and two proposed rules to address undue preference and the poultry grower ranking system.

SDCA will submit comments but we are also urging our members to weigh-in on the two rules that impact our industry directly.  Links to file your comments are included below and we have attached a comment letter template we would urge you to personalize and submit, or please feel free to draft your own comments.   A copy of the 2016 updated Informa Economics impact study is also attached.
